Hey guys, let me just start with this experience is SO COOL!!!!!!! we started at 8 am with a police escort out of san fran. it took us 30 min to go 7 miles but we quickly made up time. we finished our 86 in 5 hours (17.2 mph pace), not bad considering there were some good hills...and we still hace about 560+ miles to go. i think most of us are going to slow it down tomorrow in prep for day 3--114 miles and 14,000 ft of climb(think more than 3 mt. palomars if you DON'T start at sea level) the views are definitely amazing and even better ones to come. coach you would love it there is free peanut and plain m&m's and little candy bars from the moment we start in the am to pm!! that was my lunch--candy bars, coke and cliff blocks...my stomach just won't take the pasta and sandwiches they provide. on a serious note, we already had 2 accidents with 2 people going to the hospital (one guy broke his femur and is having surgery as wee speak) there was a railroad track that crossed our road and it was at an angle. if you didn't go over it at a 90 degree angle---oops!! all i can say is thanks to salvador and his excellent mt. bike experience, i made it--see i listen sometimes. anyway keep us all in your thoughts so we can have a safe ride with NO MORE CRASHES!!! oh, yea, as if 86 miles wasn't enough we had to climb a hill (like inside of torrey) to get to our hotel---i came close to just sleeping on the streets!! anyway only 73 tomorrow and easier pace--HOPEFULLY. big sur here we come!!! October 23, 2006 "San Diego Union Tribune"http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20061023/news_mz1b23biobyt.htmlBiobytes: Felipe Loureiro Felipe Loureiro, 30, followed in the footsteps of his father, who was a triathlete, and competed in his first triathlon at age 12. Since then, the Brazilian native has participated in hundreds of triathlons around the world. He immigrated to San Diego eight years ago. Loureiro, a personal trainer, provides coaching for all skill levels through his company, Breakaway Training ( www. Breakaway- Training. com). He also likes to watch movies and spend time at his La Jolla home with his wife and mother. RECOMMENDED WEB SITES:Wheels on Wheels http://www.wheelsonwheels.com/This site has a great selection of equipment for triathlon athletes from bikes, bike parts and wet suits to sports nutritional supplements. Triathlons and cycling can be expensive endeavors, but this site offers equipment at decent prices. San Diego Running Institute http://www.sdri.net/One vital site without which I couldn't move forward in life belongs to the San Diego Running Institute because it provides access to the best running-injury doctor in town. Koz Enterpriseshttp://www.kozenterprises.com/If you are into triathlons or running races in San Diego, this is the No.1 site to check out. It lists all the premier racing information for running and triathlons, including dates and locations, the distances each race will cover, driving directions to the racing site, and best of all, the racing results for each participant of the race. What gadget could you not live without?
My favorite and most-used gadget is the Bluetooth in my car. It allows me to talk on my cell phone hands-free, which makes me a better driver and a better conversationalist. Seven days a week, from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., I am on the run between clients and my own workouts. I don't have an office with a desk phone, so the only time I have to schedule my workday and to take care of business is in the car. So Bluetooth technology has really brought me up to speed professionally.
