Matt Simpson

Bike Mechanic/Rivet Cyclesport

Matt has over 15 years experience working on bicycles.  While racing bicycles he would spend time hanging around his team sponsors bike shop.  He learned how to work on bikes and from then on his passion for the sport of cycling and everything that came along with it grew.

Matt was a member US National Cycling Team as a Junior and spent only a short time on the Senior National Development Team.  He represented the United States in competitions in Europe, Japan, Canada and while on his US trade team traveled much of the United States racing his bicycle.  During his competitive racing career Matt won two National Championships, one on the velodrome in the Team Pursuit event and one on the road in the Team Time Trial event in 1992 and along with those results a 6th place at the Junior World Championships in Athens Greece. Matt also won a bronze medal in the Team Time Trial at the National Championships in 1993.  These results are  dated but Matt’s passion for the sport still remains.

After Matt stopped racing competitively he moved to Hawaii and spent more time at the beach than riding, but was still able to become State of Hawaii Time Trial Champion and and was also able to win various other local cycling races.  Matt also enjoyed brief triathlon success by winning his age group at the Keahou-Kona Olympic distance triathlon.

While living in Hawaii, Matt worked as a bicycle mechanic for a few of the shops on Oahu and became a fixture at Ironman Hawaii as one of the head mechanics for the event, a role he has played for almost 10 years.  Matt truly enjoys the sport of cycling and with his experience at Ironman has grown to respect the athletic abilities of all triahtletes, there is no cyclist vs. triathlete conflict with Matt.  Matt brings to the table a great passion for road cycling and his work is only one outlet for that passion.

Matt and his wife currently reside in Oceanside they have four cats which keep them busy and both are students(Matt’s first honest attempt at College). Matt attends Mira Costa College in Oceanside and his wife is enjoying her second year at Law School in Orange County and they are both looking forward to capitalizing on and enjoying the Southern California tritathlon and bicycling community.
